Summary

  • The Aura Books audiobook player at /app never sends your audio files, listening history, or library contents to any server. Everything is stored locally in your browser.
  • The public marketing pages (this page, the home page, About, and the Guides section) may serve advertisements via Google AdSense, which uses cookies. You can opt out (see below).
  • We do not run any first-party analytics. We do not have user accounts.

1. Who we are

Aura Books (“we”, “us”) is an independent project providing a browser-based audiobook player at aurabooks.app. This Privacy Policy explains what data is collected when you use the website and the player, why it is collected, and what choices you have.

2. The player at /app

The player is a Progressive Web App. When you import audiobooks, the audio blobs, cover art, book metadata, bookmarks, playback positions, and listening session timestamps are stored in your browser’s IndexedDB and localStorage. They are stored on the device, by your browser, exclusively for the purpose of letting you play your library.

Specifically, no audio file, book title, author name, listening duration, or other library data ever leaves your device. There is no server-side database of your library. There is no telemetry channel from the player back to us.

You can clear all of this data at any time by using:

  • The “Clear library” button in the player’s Settings tab, or
  • Your browser’s site-data controls (Settings → Privacy → Site Data → aurabooks.app).

3. The marketing pages (this page, /, /about, /guides, etc.)

The public pages of the website use the following third-party services:

3.1 Google Fonts

We load two fonts (Geist and Instrument Serif) from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com. Google may log the IP address of font requests as part of operating that service. Google’s Fonts API does not set cookies. See Google’s Fonts privacy FAQ.

3.2 Google AdSense

We may show advertisements on the marketing pages via Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. This may include:

  • A DoubleClick cookie used to serve ads.
  • IDA / NID cookies for ad personalization (if you have not opted out).
  • Aggregate device, browser, and geolocation information passed to Google for ad targeting.

You can opt out of personalized advertising by Google by visiting Ads Settings. You can opt out of third-party vendor cookie use generally by visiting aboutads.info. Google’s own advertising privacy policy is published at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

The player itself is not served via the page that hosts AdSense. Advertisements do not appear inside the audiobook player.

4. Hosting and server logs

Like every website, our hosting provider records standard request logs (IP address, user-agent, requested URL, timestamp) for the purpose of operating the service and diagnosing abuse. These logs are retained for no longer than 30 days and are not joined to any user identifier. We do not use server logs for analytics.

5. Cookies set by us

We do not set any first-party cookies. We do use localStorage to remember your settings (theme, default playback speed, sidebar collapse state) and IndexedDB for your library. Neither of these is a cookie and neither is transmitted to a server.

6. Children

Aura Books is suitable for all ages but is not specifically directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

7. Your rights (GDPR / UK GDPR / CCPA)

Because we do not collect or store personal data on a server, most data-subject rights are trivially satisfied: there is nothing for us to access, export, or delete. For the third-party cookies set by Google AdSense, you can manage them directly via Google Ads Settings or your browser’s cookie controls. If you live in California, you have the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information; for our site this is satisfied by opting out of personalized advertising at the same link.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
